The Department of Principles of Religion

Description

The Department of Principles of Religion is a scientific department affiliated with the College of Human Sciences and prepares students and enriches them in Islamic studies with consideration of special Kurdish traditions and free from extremist beliefs so it can produce educators to teach at the Ministry of Education and other educational institutions.

The department used to be an institution of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2005. Later in 2009, it was affiliated with The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and became one of the departments of the University of Sulaimani. Later in 2011, it became a department of University of Halabja. The Department has had 13 graduate generations in Islamic Studies who hold BA degrees who can also teach Arabic language at the Ministry of Education primary and high schools.

Department Vision

The Principles section believes that science is the gateway to understanding all things, events, and people. Above all, it facilitates an understanding of God, humanity, and other creatures. It must align with legitimate and lofty humanitarian goals. Therefore, the mission of the Department of Principles of Religion is to encourage people, especially university students, to dedicate themselves to the pursuit of knowledge. Expanding their capabilities, they can attain sciences that genuinely contribute to progress, social peace, and coexistence among individuals of diverse beliefs.

Department Mission

Exploring new interpretations of the Qur’an, Hadith, and Islamic beliefs the primary sources of the holy religion of Islam aims to address current issues. This involves discussing various perspectives on Qur’anic and Hadith matters, emphasizing their interpretations. Particularly noteworthy is their substantial contribution to promoting coexistence, unity, and interfaith harmony. The goal is to present the moderation inherent in the holy religion of Islam across all domains, infused with a Kurdish perspective, thereby countering and eradicating extremist ideologies in Kurdistan.

Learning Outcomes

The learning outcomes of this department aim to cultivate individuals who are competent, and loyal to themselves and their country, in a moderate manner, steering clear of violence, intellectual extremism, and religious extremism. The program encourages a passion for knowledge, deepening and expanding skills to attain sciences that contribute to genuine progress, social peace, and coexistence among individuals with diverse beliefs. This is especially crucial in Kurdistan, as it serves the land and people of the country.
